My Essay

One step closer for a sustainable dream green school

We started developing this project this year which consisted in creating a sustainable green dream school, created by Miss.Libia who started this project with the students that are now in 11th grade.

At first, we began giving ideas for the school, we had to plan some objectives and essential questions. Then Vanessa Trujillo and Nicolas Poveda, 11th graders gave us advice for the school, they talked about rain water reuse, solar panels and different ways for making a building sustainable. We explored the school, we took photos and we had different speeches with some experts such as the Minister of Environment that came to the school and talked about green roofs and different ways for making our school sustainable also, Luis Hernandez the environmental coordinator of the school guided us in our project. We had to do a power point presentation showing the description of our project, our objectives and all the process we did including the logo and our justification. We visited the Rochester School, one of the few schools who have the Leed Gold certification worldwide. They showed us their school, their sustainable buildings and how they took care of the planet by saving energy  through solar panels and their different systems for reducing  water, we learned how a real sustainable school is, finally we created a song explaining our school in a different way.

On the other hand, creating a sustainable school is not easy. This project requires time, creativity and dedication, In my opinion this project is just a step closer for what in the future would be a sustainable school, of course for achieving this goal there needs to be support and awareness from the students for making this dream possible in the future.

In conclusion, this project helped me realize having a sustainable school is not having beautiful buildings, is creating awareness among people, make them understand the meaning of sustainability. Big changes start from the smallest things such as reducing consumption, recycling and reusing at home. As has been said if we all contribute, we can not only have a better school but also we can have a better world.
